Intersectional identities data

Intersectional identities data

We introduced this element to data submissions to further increase the transparency of who is and isn’t represented across the sector. Taking part involves collecting other personal characteristics beyond race/ethnicity to allow us to cross-tabulate multiple characteristics and therefore to understand the sector in more detail.

Alongside the race/ethnicity data which forms the main part of organisation's data submissions, we now collect data against the remaining personal characteristics covered by the Equality Act (2010):

  • Age
  • Gender identity
  • Disability
  • Gender reassignment
  • Sexual orientation
  • Maternity/paternity/adoption leave
  • Marriage/civil partnership
  • Religion and belief

These characteristics align with those described in the Equality Act (2010) as personal characteristics it is against the law to discriminate against. We recognise that the terms and language used to describe these protected characteristics doesn't always align with how people may identify or choose to describe themselves. We also recognise that achieving equality, diversity and inclusionisn’t limited to these characteristics.

The table below shows an example of cross-tabulated data, revealing greater insights into diversity across the sector:

The pilot is open to all organisations submitting data, but is an optional element of the data submission.

Get in touch via race-report@sos-uk.org if you want to discuss in more detail how your data could contribute and for any support in collecting and collating the data for submission.

Intersectional data will only feature in the aggregated main data report – no organisation names will be featured alongside the data. Data from individual organisations will not be published on the organisation’s transparency card.

The table below shows how cross-tabulating two characteristics can reveal further details about the diversity of people working across the sector.
